Tell us about yourself
It was my childhood dream to have a dog, but I couldn’t get one because my family members are allergic. So when I got my first dog, Grizzly, as an adult and learned about canine cancer statistics and the fact that AAFCO allows diseased, disabled, and dead before slaughtered animals in pet food, I wanted to create a product that meets the quality standards I want for Grizzly.
My mission is to help dogs live longer lives with minimally processed foods. Seeing your pups love the treats and chews I make and the super positive reviews keep me going daily!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Several customers have left reviews saying Furever Love Club is the only company they trust for organic and pastured treats and chews for their dogs. This is my biggest accomplishment as a business owner because people understand, share, and support my vision of creating the highest quality, transparently sourced, all-natural dog treats and chews!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
When starting a business from the ground up, it seems like you're starting to climb a mountain with a thousand trails and no map in your hands. There are so many different directions you can go, and it all seems so overwhelming! There is no one-size-fits-all method to building a business, so it's important to do the things that will move your business forward the most.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Decide your mission: Starting a business is hard work and takes loads of grit. Pick something you are passionate about and decide your core mission and 'why' from the get-go. Don't follow the trend on what's popular at the moment, and don't think any industry is overcrowded. Do what you're passionate about, and there will be space for you to succeed. On the days when you don't feel like keeping going, reconnect with your 'why.'
- Follow your gut: Being a business owner means being pulled in a thousand directions. Learn how to connect to your intuition and focus on the 1-2 things that are right in front of you and will move the needle forward the most for your business.
- Messy, imperfect action trumps planning and inaction every time: You can get lost in the planning. Sure some planning and a roadmap help, but every time I've made detailed plans, they always end up changing. Have a north star, but don't waste your time planning in detail. Action will get you closer to your north star. Dare to suck at first! The most talented people and biggest corporations all had to start at 0. They weren't born with gold medals and millions in revenue. You have to let go of judgment from others and, most importantly yourself! It takes time to get good at anything. Put yourself out there, and do the things that make you uncomfortable. That's where the growth is.
